jan 31, 1865 - 13th Amendment

Description:

The 13th of 27 Amendments to the United States Constitution which was created following the American War of Independence made by George Washington.
The 13th Amendment passed by Congress, abolished slavery in America. It stated, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude… shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” It was officially signed by the House on the 6th of December 1865. This amendment did not stop discrimination against black Americans by white supremacists. However, despite this abolishment of slavery, black people were still discriminated by state laws known as Black Codes, these laws had denied black Americans from political rights and had them attend ‘black’ schools, by segregating the public into coloured people and white people.
