Description:

Eurystheus commands Heracles to obtain the girdle of the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyte.

Travelling to Athens to find transport, he dines with the king, Theseus, whom he had met when Theseus was a small boy. Telling the King of his intention, Theseus elects to travel with the hero, as he had heard of the mighty warrior women of Themiscrya and wanted to see them for himself.

Arriving at the Amazonian capital on the Therm river, the heroes are welcomed. Telling the Queen of their intentions, she agrees to give Heracles her girdle if he bests her in a wrestling match. After several matches, she bests Heracles in one-on-on combat, and she takes him as spoils of battle.
