After the French occupation of the Ruhr, the German government tried to print more money to cover costs of workers. However, this led to money decreasing in value and was so extreme in germany it became hyperinflation. Those with debts benefitted from this, but pensioners, workers, and other such people (AKA the majority of Germany) were not so lucky
