jan 28, 1932 - Japanese Attack Shanghai

Description:

After the Mukden Incident and the set up of the puppet state Manchukuo, the Chinese revolted against the unwanted invasion of the Japanese. These protests grew and started to turn violent as resentment grew. In Shanghai, a group of Chinese soldiers "violated" Japanese boundaries, which angered the Japanese government, who demanded an apology and monetary compensation from Shanghai. Even though the government in Shanghai complied with demands, Japanese carrier aircraft bombed the city on January 28 and 3,000 Japanese troops marched into Shanghai. Fighting ensued for four months until May, when the Shanghai Ceasefire Agreement was signed and many territories in China were given to Japan.
