jan 1, 1821 - Mexico Invites U.S. Settlers
Description:
During this time, the Mexican government invited American farmers to settle in Texas. They did this so they could protect their territory from Native American attacks and prevent border violations by horse thieves. Mexico offered large land grants to agents, or empresarios, throughout 1821, 1823, and 1824. This greatly attracted American settlers, and this soon led to the formation of Texas in the near future.
