When the settlers in New Ulm heard about attacks they built a barricade to keep out attacks. At about 3:00 pm 100 Dakota soldiers attacked New Ulm. After about 2 hours of lots of fighting, the Dakota break off the fighting because of rain. Word of the attack reaches St. Paul, and the governor decides to gather forces and follow the Dakota.
