Description:
In 1816, Sydney finished building, claiming and opened the first public Hospital in Australia (known as the Rum Hospital).
Although in 1845, the Sydney Infirmary and Dispensary, a charity instituted the previous year to provide medical care for the poor, moved into the building.
After that in 1894, the hospital renamed itself to Sydney Hospital. Also, the Sydney Infirmary is where Lucy Osburn had found modern nursing in Australia.
