jan 1, 1778 - Disease, dispossession and direct conflict

Description:

One fine day in 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip and 1500 convicts, crew and etc arrived at Sydney cove, Sydney. After 10 years passed, an estimate of the First Nations population had fallen by 90%. The 3 reasons for the plunging population are,

1. Introduction of new diseases,

2. Acquisition (which means something acquired or gained) of First Nations land by colonisers and last but not least

3. direct and vicious conflicts with colonisers.

The instant consequence of colonisation was waves of epidemic illnesses including the smallpox, measles and influenza ( influenza is commonly known as the flu), which had spread ahead of the frontier and annihilated (which means destroy utterly; obliterate) many First Nations communities.
