may 8, 2022 - Alabama Bans Gender Affirming Care
Description:
Recently, Alabama banned giving gender affirming care to trans youth. An Alabama Senate law 184 was passed. It was to prohibit giving medicine, surgery and other care to alter one's gender identity. Judge Liles Burke issued a “preliminary injunction” to make giving minors gender affirming care not a felony. Many medical professionals say that gender affirming care is important. It can help stop depression in trans youth and make them feel more comfortable. Yet the conservative lawmakers go by religious belief, and do not listen to professionals. Alabama was the third state to block gender affirming care, after Arkansas and Tennessee. The blockage of these fundamental treatments is a complete disregard of peoples human rights. People have been gathering for protests to express their opposition to the bill. People have been trying to spread their message of why they think that this bill is harmful. Many people on a personal level have said that gender affirming care has helped them very much and the thought of that being taken away from people is heartbreaking.
