Description:
This treaty was signed to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and to further reach a goal of general nuclear disarmament. Signed by the United Kingdom, the United States, the Soviet Union, and 59 other states, these countries which possessed nuclear weapons, agreed not to assist other states in obtaining or producing them. This treaty was put into effect in 1970 and created in order to de-escalate the rising threat of nuclear warfare and conclude the Cold War.
