Martin Luther King, unlike Malcolm X, believed that peaceful protest was the most effective way of making the message of desegregation heard. He is most famous for his "I have a dream" speech and for the most part led the black civil rights movement during his lifetime. He was assassinated in 1968 and riots broke out as a result. His death essentially ended the civil rights movement in the 60s.
