apr 20, 1961 - Bay of Pigs Invasion
Description:
A failed attempt by the United States to overthrow the Castro regime.
Cuban exiles who opposed Castro were trained and sent to the Bay of Pigs in Cuba. However, the invasion force was unequal to the strength of Castro's troops, and thus, they were captured and imprisoned.
As a result, this worsened U.S. relations with Cuba, and thus Cuba was in favor of turning communist. This event would heavily contribute to the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962.
