Description:

The Middle Kingdom started when a powerful family took over and claimed that throne during the 11th dynasty. After the last King of the 11th dynasty was killed, the chief minister, Amenemhet I, inherited the throne, starting the 12th dynasty. During this dynasty Egyptt was reunited and a new capital called Itjtawy was established. The focus during this era was gaining resources and establishing trade. The power of this kingdom started to decline in around 1798 BCE and continued under the rule of Queen Sobekneferu, who is believed to be the first Queen of Egypt.
