California was very suitable for oranges due to its climate. Thus, the source continues by stating how the citrus industry became an essential part of many cities and towns within California. The incredibly large growth of the orange industry fueled California's economy so much that the Governor declared California Orange Day in 1914 as “a festival of rejoicing over the bounteous yields of the citrus fruits” It was set to occur on March 21st every year to increase public knowledge of citrus fruits and their industry. It also was to celebrate the economic and cultural impacts of citrus in California.
