As the Mexican population increased in California, so did the tension between whites and Mexicans. Some Mexicans began wearing what would be called a zoot suit. A zoot suit consisted of high waisted pants with a long blazer. Whites began attacking people wearing zoot suits and eventually zoot suits were banned in public.Added to timeline:
