jan 1, 1895 - Woman's Anti Association [1895]
Description:
(The first anti-suffragist organized movement)
Organized in Massachusetts and later the movement being moved and based in New York, the anti-suffrage movement consisted of, surprisingly elite, gifted and high class white women, who were often married to prominent men of the senate.
One of these anti-suffrage women quote,
"Women 'are men’s equal, and almost as well educated, as good and as intelligent in ordinary matters,' she wrote. But the ballot was a burden that would corrupt and 'unsex' them, and take away their 'liberty.'"
Although...
The suffragist weren't literally complete anti-feminism; most were actually active reformers, sometimes pushing for the same causes such as child welfare, workplace safety, and access to education.
They mostly desired to prevent woman's vote, and prevent women from receiving professions that "they couldn't handle" in society.
