Description:

This was a government set up after the fall of Nicholas II, the last emperor of Russia. After the February Revolution of 1917, this provisional government was set up. This was a temporary government set up to create a new government. This provisional government lasted until the Bolsheviks took over in the October Revolution of 1917. This government’s job was to elect new leaders to the Russian Constituent Assembly. The government had several leaders including Kerensky, but was eventually taken over in the October Revolution of 1917. The end of this government in November 7, 1917 because of the October revolution marked the change of power. Power shifted from the Mensheviks and Kerensky to Lenin and the Bolsheviks. This government was set up after the revolution as was very important to the revolution, for this weak government was one of the reasons that another revolution in October happened. This government was another reason that the people would rebel and overthrow the government again. It was largely run by Mensheviks and was associated with Trotsky and Kerensky. The opposition to this government was the Petrograd Soviet which would eventually take over in the October Revolution.
