Southern Whigs - proslavery, pro annexation.

Democrats nominated James K. Polk due to deadlock between Van Buren and Calhoun.
James K. Polk - supported Manifest Destiny, annexation of Texas, acquisition of California, controlling entire Oregon territory, kick British out. Supported by Southerners and American Westerners, who supported expansion.
