oct 14, 1964 - Leonid Brezhnev Becomes General Secretary
Description:
Following discontent with Nikita Khrushchev's ailing social and economic reforms leads elements within the Communist Party to oust him as First Secretary and replace him with Brezhnev. Brezhnev is a much more conservative and indecisive leader than Khrushchev, and his time as head of the Soviet Union will mostly be dominated by his decisions being influenced overwhelmingly by his close advisors, such as Mikhail Suslov and Alexei Kosygin.
