jan 24, 1924 - Lenin Dies

Description:

Following a series of strokes, leader of the young Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin passes away. His death quickly causes a struggle for succession between the Communist Left, helmed by Leon Trotsky, the Right, led by Lev Kamenev and Nikolay Bukharin, and the Centre, consisting of Iosif Stalin. Stalin quickly enters into a leadership sharing agreement with Kamenev and Zinoviev, but after marginalizing the left he quickly moves on his former allies on the right and by the end of the decade is sole head of the Soviet state. Stalin's victory, as well as his doctrine of socialism in one country and defensive hostility to the west will play a major role in Soviet domestic and foreign policy for the next 30 years.
