apr 28, 2021 - Vaccine Champions initiative launches.

Description:

The campaign is tagged "Finish Strong 417" and is designed to promote vaccination uptake in the Springfield-Greene County area.

Archived release:

"Local public health departments across the 417 region are partnering to launch a new initiative to empower members of the public to personally engage their family, friends, and peers to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The Vaccine Champions initiative aims to leverage the vital role every person and organization in our community can play in combatting COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and reaching our Finish Strong campaign goal to vaccinate 50% of eligible Greene County residents by Memorial Day.

A recent Missouri Foundation for Health study found that personal testimony and support are leading factors in engaging loved ones to be more open to receiving the vaccine. Individuals interested in becoming a Vaccine Champion will become part of a local community of vaccine supporters working to address vaccine hesitancy. These champions will be provided online community support and resources so they may feel confident in assisting others find answers to their COVID-19 questions and potential concerns. To become a Vaccine Champion, join on Facebook at facebook.com/groups/417vaccine. Those who do not have access to Facebook can email coronavirus@springfieldmo.gov. for information on how to receive the Vaccine Champion resources and updates.

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department will host the first Vaccine Champions webinar, “How to Talk to Others About the Vaccine,” on May 5th from 11-12:00 PM. This webinar will provide community members with practical ideas and tips for using motivational interviewing techniques to talk to others about their vaccine reservations. Interested individuals can register at health.springfieldmo.gov/vaccinewebinar."
