Description:

After Heraclonas retreat to Pelusium, Arab armies, led by Al-Walid, then swung south, around the fortress and invaded Egypt proper, hoping to take advantage of a situation he thought was still ongoing.

With some aid then Al-Walid laid siege to Heliopolis in the Delta, and was able to storm the city. However, Al-Walid attempts to take it by trickery failed, and the assault turned into a bloody slaughter. The city fell, but Arab force had taken much heavier casualties than they had hoped for.
