may 25, 1787 - Constitutional Convention

Description:

Met in the Old Pennsylvania state court house, now know as Independence Hall, all states met here to discuss and debate over a national constitution. Led to the drafting of the document after several months of editing and debate. The Great Compromise happened in deabte, where the New Jersey plan advocated representation through 2 senator from each state-giving advantage to smaller states, contrasting the Virginia Plan where representation was determined by state population. The compromise was proposed by Roger Sherman, with the idea of a bicameral congress which consisted of both Plans. Other notable elements were the 3/5ths compromise, where with representation by population, slaves counted as 3/5ths a person.
