jan 4, 1894 - Franco-Russian Alliance
Description:
In response to the perception of rapid German growth and the perceived decline of French and Russian relative power, as well as the Triple Alliance of 1882, France and Russia sign a formal military treaty guaranteeing the security of the other in the case of a war. This agreement was a major contributing factor in continual breakdown in European cooperation, as imperial powers rapidly built up complex alliance systems in advance of a presumed war with other powers over colonial and continental economic interests.
