Description:

-broke up reservations and distributed some of the land to the head of each Native American family
-the allotment was 160 acres, just like the Homestead Act
-If they lived there for 25 years, they would get American citizenship
-humanitarian solution to the "Indian Problem"
-main goal was to assimilate the Native Americans faster by integrating them more closely with whites
-Native resisted, leading to them selling their land to speculator leaving them homeless
