Levittown was the name of a series of housing developments built by Levitt and Sons construction company to house returning soldiers and their family outside of cramped inner city housing. Levittown houses were built like an assembly line, allowing a house to built in one day with 36 men, and contained modern appliances, a large yard, and a white picket fence. All Levittowns had swimming pools, parks, rec centers, and meeting areas. Over 17,000 homes were sold, 1,400 in the first 3 hours, and housed 84,000 people.
