nov 11, 1918 - The End of the WWI - Armistice
Description:
The Spring Offensives of 1918 were Germany's last attempt to defeat the British and French armies on the Western Front, and thereby win total victory. Their failure left the German army fatally weakened, demoralized and facing an Allied counter-offensive which was strengthened by the US troops. Since all of Germany's allies had been left out of the war, this attack that was aimed at the entire western front challenged Germany’s power greatly. In addition to this, Germany was facing political changes too, which weakened them even more. When all hope of victory was lost, on November 11, 1918, the Armistice of Compiègne was signed at 5:20 am by a German Delegation and French Delegation which included General Ferdinand Foch and was set to cease all hostilities on land, air and water. Some of the conditions included the surrender of materials from Germany and the release of all Allied prisoners of war. The Armistice came into effect six hours later, at 11:00am Paris time, and finally ended World War 1.
