sep 6, 1914 - The Battle of Marne
Description:
The Battle of Marne, happened from September 6 to 12, 1914 near The Marne River, an offensive between the French army and the British against the advancing German troops who had conquered Belgium and had the grand Schlieffen plan to invade Paris. However, the remarkable change in fortunes and the failure of the Schlieffen plan was caused by the exhaustion of many of the German forces, restriction by demolished bridges and railways, constricting their supply lines, and underestimation of the resilience of the French. In saving Paris from capture by pushing the Germans back, the First Battle of the Marne was a great strategic victory, as it enabled the French to continue the war. However, the Germans succeeded in capturing a large part of the industrial north east of France
