-members founded settlement houses in poor neighborhoods which became community centers, providing schools, childcare, and cultural activities
-Jane Addams founded Hull House to provide English lessons for immigrants, day care for children, childcare for parents and playgrounds for children
-Addams campaigned for increased gov't. services in slums
-She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931
