jan 1, 1965 - Canada’s New Flag unveiled [1965]

Description:

French Canadians thought that the old flag was too British as it had the Red Ensign, so Lester Pearson suggested that Canada create a new flag. English Canadians wanted to keep the old Red Ensign flag and felt that Pearson was giving into pressure from the French Canadians, who wanted a new flag. Eventually, after much debate, a red maple leaf on a white background with red borders each side was chosen to be Canada's new flag.
