Description:

-Nat Turner was a well read preacher
-had a vision from God that a black liberation movement would succeed
-He rallied a gang that killed and mutilated the corpses of whites
-200 enslaved people were executed even through some had no connection to the rebellion
-Southern states passed a series of restricted laws known as the slave codes: prevented them from congregating and learning to read and write and some prevented whites from questioning the legitimacy of slavery
