jun 24, 1521 - The Chicora Legend
Description:
Spanish slave traders landed on the yet little-explored mainland of what is now the Southeastern United States. They explored and later claimed the Winyah Bay.
There, they abducted a group of young Native men. One of them was called Francisco de Chicora by them and taken back to Spain to learn Spanish and "become civilized", so he could function as a translator on their later voyages. Surviving both voyages and the time in Spain, he reportedly escaped soon after reentering America.
