-mob pelted a group of soldiers with rock-filled snowballs
-soldiers fired on the crowd, killing five including Crispus Attucks, an American patriot and former slave
-propaganda campaign suggested that the soldiers had shot into a crowd of innocent bystanders
-John Adams defended the soldiers in court, establishing a tradition of giving a fair trial to all who are accused
-anti-royal leaders used the massacre to spur action in the colonies
-also known as the bloody massacre
