-even after the Townshend Acts were repealed, the soldier remained, especially in Boston
-they were sent to keep the peace, bu just heightened the tensions
-they searched for jobs off-hour and therefore were competing with the colonists for jobs
-many confrontations occurred, most notably, the Boston massacre
