-stamps were affixed to documents or packages to show that the tax had been paid
-affected mostly the literate, persuasive and argumentative (lawyers)
-tax on goods produced within the colonies
-"No taxation without representation"
-Virginia Stamp Act resolves were drafted by Patrick Henry
-mostly mad that colonists were losing their autonomy
-mobs burned customs offices, governors houses, and customs house
-protest groups called themselves the Sons of Liberty
-not one of the Crown's duty collectors were willing to perform their job
-repealed in 1766
-Declaratory Act asserted that the British Government had a right to tax and legislate in all cases anywhere in the colonies
-colonists won the battle against the Stamp Act
