Description:

-Nathaniel Bacon
-As costal land was occupied, people were pushed west
-These areas would have frequent raids on colonists by Natives
-farmers felt that they were being used as "human shields" between the eastern colonies and the natives
-group of angry farmers asked for a militia from William Berkeley, the governor, who refused
-Bacon and his followers attacked Indian tribes (some that were even allies)
-also burned down Berkeley's plantation
-The Natives responded by burning Jamestown
-land owners were afraid that indentured servants would uprise--> got African slaves
-early example of populist uprisings
-precursor to the American Revolution
