oct 14, 1964 - 32. Leonid Brezhnev succeeds Khrushchev
Description:
October 14th, 1964
As Khrushchev rose through the Soviet ranks, so did his associate, Brezhnev. When Khrushchev promoted Brezhnev to the communist party’s central committee, Brezhnev acquired enough power to replace Khrushchev. This even is significant because Brezhnev had a policy of suppression protests throughout the Eastern Bloc.
