jan 20, 1961 - 25. Second Berlin Crisis
Description:
June 4th, 1961
With Western economic aid and a policy of rebuilding, Western Germany’s economy and industrial capability far outmatched East Germany and the Eastern Bloc by 1961. As a result, many people in East Germany and the Eastern Bloc moved to West Germany for a better life. This discrepancy was very clearly seen in Berlin and so, the GDR constructed a wall between West and East Berlin. This event is significant because it showcases to the world that life under communism was not a great as life under capitalism.
