jul 9, 1816 - Argentina's Independence
Description:
Argentina gains independence from Spain.
Napoleon’s invention in the Spanish government in 1808 caused some sympathy for the exiled Ferdinand VII. Under Spanish law, his land in the Americas had the right to govern themselves until a lawful king was restored. Because of this, the Buenos Aires cabildo was established to administer the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in the name of Ferdinand VII. The United Provinces of the Río de la Plata was declared an independent country on July 9, 1816.
