Description:

US marines invaded one of the Japanese home islands. Invading the home island was extremely concentrated with Japanese forces and many lives were lost on both sides. Around 7,600 marines lost their lives and 110,000 Japanese soldiers were killed in the invasion of the island. The US and the Allies emerged victorious after harsh attacks from the Japanese.
Significance - With control of this island the US was now much closer to the war and we were able to deliver larger scale attacks in the future. Japanese forces and government were significantly weakened.
