Description:

The Allies had enough troops to attempt an invasion on European soil. Instead, they did an invasion of Axis-controlled North Africa led by Eisenhower. Italians battled with Great Britain in North Africa to remove them from a stronghold in Egypt and failed. US and Britain stayed planted against German forces as well in the conflict.
Significance - American troops gained some much-needed combat experience, and they proved they could make a significant contribution to the war.
