Description:
American troops sent by General MacArthur stormed the Soloman Islands to help protect Australia. Soon the Allies began “island-hopping”, using a powerful combination of land, sea, and air forces to capture and secure islands while avoiding the heaviest concentrations of enemy forces. After 6 months the Japanese abandon the island, and this island was nicknamed the Island of Death.
Significance - Both sides took high casualties, but this pushed back Japans forces and granted independence in The Solomons.
