jan 20, 1961 - JFK becomes first Catholic President

Description:

John F. Kennedy won the presidential race against Richard Nixon in 1960; becoming the first Catholic to become head of the Executive branch. His catholicism was a sticking point in the eyes of the American people, who were a protestant majority, and had concerns that Kennedy's Catholicism would make him dually loyal to Vatican City. His brother, Bobby Kennedy, would become his Attorney General. (Life of John F. Kennedy | JFK Library)
