sep 3, 1929 - wall street crash
Description:
a major American stock market crash that occurred in the autumn of 1929. it started in September and ended late in October. this impacted the whole world and was maybe the most important event, other than the wars. this kickstarted the economic depression.
US loans dried up, and businesses in many countries went bankrupt, leading to mass unemployment. some countries tried to protect their industries by putting tariffs on imports. this just damaged trade for the whole world. many countries (including germany, japan, Italy, and Britain) started to rearm in order to combat unemployment. the internationalistic mindset on the 20s was nigh forgotten.
