the treaty of versailles was signed at the aris peace conference after WWI. it was signed by Britain, France, Italy, Japan, and the US. the main three men assigned to discussing this treaty were Woodrow Wilson, the president of the US, Georges Clemenceau, the French PM, and David Lloyd George, the British PM. the reparations were very severe and not all members were happy with it. germany saw the high bill as insulting and unfair, protesting that they were not the only driving power of the war. this is important as if the treaty of versailles wasn't so harsh and germany's economy wasn't damaged as much, the german public may not have elected Hitler as a leader.
