On 25 May, the Black Lives Matter movement swelled to a critical juncture when 46-years-old George Perry Floyd Jr. died after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by police officer Derek Chauvin, who was filmed kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes.
On April 2021, Chauvin was convicted on second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
Floyd's killing came on the feels of two other high-profile cases in 2020:
1st Ahmaud Arbery
2nd Breonna Taylor
