Description:

Cause (International): Russia's Bolshevik Revolution and Marxist Theory all gained traction among many Chinese intellectual leaders, even leading to Mao Zedong's declaration of the People's Republic of China.

Effect (International): CCP would fight against GMD in Chinese Civil War, eventually prompting US President Harry Truman to send George C. Marshall to China to create the Marshall Mission and succeed in bringing both sides together and form an armistice between the two sides.

Cause (Domestic): Japan was awarded former German colonies in China at the Paris Peace Conference, many Chinese students became angered by the weak government response to Japanese territorial demands and the Western enablement of these demands. In response they initiated pro-nationalist and anti-colonial protests in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square.

Effect (Domestic): The radicalization of many of the Chinese from ideas such as anarchism and Marxism may have contributed to the formation of the Chinese Communist Party. The CCP would eventually form both the Northern Expedition and the United Fronts with the GMD to unify China again.
