Description:

Cause (International): Prime Minister Konoe maintained negotiations with US but secretly planned attack on US Pearl Harbor in hopes that it would intimidate US out of a possible involvement in WWII.

Effect (International): Plan backfired, resulting in President FDR declaring war on Japan, propaganda in US about Pearl Harbor circulated, retaliation with Hiroshima.

Cause (Domestic): With support from the Japanese Navy and appointment of Tojo Hideki as Minister of War, Konoe felt it would be simply possible to keep US out of the war.

Effect (Domestic): Japan severely affected by Hiroshima, whose after effects lasted several weeks, Japan ended up losing WWII too.
