Cause (International): Jiang Jieshi had ordered one of his subordinates, Zhang Xue-liang, to crush the Red Army (CCP troops) as part of the Chinese Civil War, Zhang kidnapped Jiang to force a truce between the CCP and GMDEffect (International): As a condition of Jiang’s release, the Chinese Civil War was temporarily ended and the Second United Front was formed.
Cause (Domestic): Japanese influence over China continued even after events of Lytton Report
Effect (Domestic): Second United Front formed, Second Sino-Japanese War erupts.
