dec 1, 1955 - December 1, 1955
Description:
Background- In Montgomery, Alabama, a woman by the name of Rosa Parks sat down near the front of a segregated bus. A man had just boarded the bus and Mrs. Parks was asked to move in order to have the man sit down; she refused and was arrested promptly. This brought about a citywide boycott of the system.
Conclusion- While not directly involving Malcolm X, this event will go down in history as an irreplaceable action which fueled the Civil Rights Movement. After months of refusal to use the busing system, the city finally settled an agreement which eradicated segregated busing.
